Steve Stephens, board chairman of the San Angelo Area Foundation announced the following grant awards from component funds of the Foundation totaling $140,752. The San Angelo Area Foundation has been in existence since 2002 and manages endowments for area donors and non-profits. Below is a listing of the grants awarded for the Fall of 2004.

Discretionary Funds

The discretionary fund is an unrestricted endowment which the board of directors of the foundation make grants to area non-profits having entertained grant requests from area organizations. $24,852 was awarded during the 2004 grant cycle.

1. Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council for the Concho Valley $5,529 (to replace an old chain link fence with a more secure six foot steel fence at Sarah’s house)
   
   
2. Fort Chadbourne Foundation $6,823 (a challenge grant to help build a handicap accessible restroom at Fort Chadbourne)
   
   
3. Boy Scouts of America $10,000 (to help replace council office vehicles)
   
   
4. Christmas in April $2,500 (to help fund the purchase of 50 new step ladders)

Donor advised funds are endowments established by donors, and the donors are involved in the grant making organization. The following organizations were awarded grants from various donor advised funds held at the Foundation totaling $101,525 for during the fall of 2004.

The Foundation also manages funds for the San Angelo Schools Foundation under a collaborative agreement.
