[Page 1] SAAF awards first scholarships

In this newsletter, you will read about the scholarship programs of the San Angelo Area Foundation. I hope you take a moment to see the faces of the recipients of the first round of scholarship grants from the San Angelo Area Foundation.

Below is a picture from our inaugural scholarship luncheon, held May 25 at Zenter’s Daughter Restaurant. The scholarship recipients, along with their families and donors, were treated to chicken fried steak and a wonderful talk from Angelo State University President Dr. James Hindman.

Since our last newsletter, we have been blessed to receive numerous endowed scholarship funds. The San Angelo Health Foundation has graciously offered to match a donor’s gift which creates an endowed scholarship fund.

The minimum fund amount to receive the matching grant is $5,000 and the maximum match is $20,000. To learn more about this wonderful matching grant, please call us at 947-7071. Below is a listing (as of this printing) of scholarship funds at the Foundation:

  • Travis Armstrong Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund
  • Raymond Torres Meza II Memorial Scholarship Fund
  • San Angelo A&M Endowed Scholarship Fund
  • Ralph and Elene Wilson Scholarship Fund
  • Karen Kay Huddleston Memorial Scholarship Fund
  • San Angelo A&M Club Scholarship Fund
  • Stephens Fund for ASU Athletic Scholarships
  • Stephens Scholarship Fund of the Concho Valley for ASU Athletics
  • San Angelo Rotary Scholarship Fund

Scholarship funds established this year will be eligible for awarding scholarships next year. Students can download applications for next year’s awards starting January 2005.
